Pressure on second-tier AV labs?
Over the first six months of 2007, anti-virus applications market leader Symantec found a total of 212,101 new malware variants, an astonishing 185 percent increase over the second half of 2006, totaling an average of well over 1100 unique samples arriving per day. Beyond Symantec and its biggest rivals -- including McAfee, Microsoft, and Trend Micro -- it will be unlikely that additional AV researchers and technology vendors will be able to remain relevant.

I'm prepared to wait and see. An interesting article claiming incredible numbers [1100 unique samples per day]. But again, another item promoting the big advertisers [sorry, should that be providers] in security products. As I blogged [yes, a rarity, but it does happen sometimes] a few days ago, I make no secret of the fact that I rely on individual software products, and none of the above make my "A" list.
And I was a bit offended by that "second tier" rubbish!!!
