Clearing swap and hibernation files properly

Most privacy-conscious users are familiar with deleting files securely, that is, destructively with overwriting and with wiping free space on their disks. But two items that often get overlooked are the swap file (or swap partition), and the hibernation file.

My personal favourite

Use DBan and do multiple passes.
Commercial products have difficulty in recovering data after one pass with DBan.

FWIW, NIST doesn't consider DBAN as secure as the secure erase built into ATA drives.
